Third Salt Venture Fund takes its name from the concept of the “three salt” steelhead, a term anglers use for sea-run steelhead trout that have run the ocean three times, growing stronger and more resilient while returning yearly to their natal streams.
These fish embody persistence, adaptability, and the ability to thrive across vastly different environments, traits we see as essential in early-stage ventures. Like the steelhead’s journey between saltwater and freshwater, Third Salt is built for transition and endurance: identifying companies that can navigate change, build deep operational strength, and return lasting value to investors.
Local Salsa emerged from a hands-on effort to understand the realities facing small, local producers by working directly within the Central Oregon food economy. In a town of roughly 55,000 people, home to three independent salsa makers, it became clear that durable businesses are built through grit, collaboration, and a deep understanding of constraints. By helping one local producer sharpen operations and navigate growth, we saw how focused, practical support can sustain livelihoods across generations.
Over time, Local Salsa came to mean more than a name: it reflects our belief that meaningful innovation starts with two people working closely, turning raw ideas into something real, useful, and built to last.
